Many authors have depicted visions of the future in science fiction stories, manga and film. Later, science and technology realized those visions.
The manga artist Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989), released Captain Atom in 1951. The following year he started a series entitled Atom in which Tezuka carved out his new robot with the cordial understanding of a human being. Atom began airing in Japan as the first domestically produced animated cartoon in 1963 in Japan and was known as Astro Boy abroad.

This exhibition will trace the Japanese robot chronicles during the last eighty years focusing on the history of Atom and the development of the robot industry in three parts; Chapter 1: Genesis, Chapter 2: Atom Big Bang, and Chapter 3: For the Future. The exhibition will begin as a celebration of Atom's first birthday on April 7, 2004.
