FLOWERS AND LANDSCAPE
Claude Monet and Young Japanese Artists: Shinji Ohmaki, Mika Ninagawa, and Satoko

The Contemporary Museum of Art, Kumamoto is delighted to show the “FLOWERS AND LANDSCAPE”. The exhibition presents the works of Impressionist protagonist Claude Monet, as well as three contemporary artists, now increasingly attracting world’s attention; Shinji Ohmaki, the installation artist, Mika Ninagawa the photographer, Satoko Nachi the painter. Juxtaposition of the European great master and today’s leading artists will cast a fresh light on Monet’s world, providing the observers with a new perspective and an opportunity to deepen the understanding of contemporary art, how it is deeply linked to the history, strikingly beautiful, and always close to us.
Efflorescent works of art fill the space; Monet shows his flowers and landscapes, Shinji Ohmaki produced an installation that renders the flowers and hues of Kumamoto, Mika Ninagawa demonstrates her newly produced flower photographs, Satoko Nachi introduces her new paintings of the flowers and her imagined scenery, especially for this occasion. Furthermore, Monet’s “Water Lilies” (1920, The Museum of Modern Art, New York), the enlarged details and full size photograph of which by Yasuhiro Ishimoto highlight the exhibition. The Japanese representing photographer gave new life to the masterpiece, and the “Water Lilies” greet us with a fresh image.
