Psychoanalysis: Gazes on Photo and Video Art from Austria
Tokyo and Kumamoto will host an intriguing exhibition of photography and video art by contemporary Austrian artists –six individuals and one duo- who capture the world with a radical flexibility in keeping with their choice of media. That six of the eight participating artists are women shows how active female artists are in Austria, and indeed their work extends worldwide from Europe to Asia, Africa and South America.
The underlying theme of the exhibition is “architecture and the body,” which can be understood as “people and the changing, expanding city.” Here one encounters both the centrifugal force of the Austrian artists’ conduct and expressions and the centripetal force of contemporary man turning inward.

Participating Artists
Bitter&Weber, Maria Hahnenkamp, Ursula Mayer, Markus Schinwald, Aglaia Konrad, Andrea Witzman, Dorit Margreiter
