WATER, FIRE and EARTH the source of creativity
This exhibition, “Water, Fire, and Earth, the source of creativity,” brings together a group of artists who deal directly with the sources of imagination and creation. There are eight participating artists, including Hiroshi Sugimoto, Toshikatsu Endo, and Hiroshi Senju, who are all known internationally; Cai Guo-Qiang, a Chinese artist who has expanded the scope of his artistic actions to world scale, and Yusuke Asai, a young Japanese artist who is currently in the limelight; and Richard Long, David Nash, and Andy Goldsworthy, three British sculptors whose names are associated with nature.
The theme of water, fire, and earth is closely connected to the history, geography, and the natural environment of Kumamoto. The usual list of the four basic elements of nature includes air or wind along with water, fire, and earth. We are presenting the work of artists who have created bold and dynamic works of art using these basic elements as materials or themes. |
