 We are delighted to present the retrospective exhibition of the renowned artist Yoh Shomei (1946- ) commemorating the 40th anniversary of his career. This exhibition consists of around 250 works including the original pictures for his picture books from the early time to the present and a series of 42 watercolor paintings “Blue Stream”(1984) which has never been shown before.
 Yoh Shomei was born and brought up in Kumamoto and studied at the Art Students League of New York. He debuted with his first picture book ”Jake” in 1972 and won the Graphic Award at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair with ”Wind and Panther” in 1990. He has published many picture books with the theme of peace and environment such as “ Not Mines, But Flowers”
(1996) and “Planet of Dolphins” (1996). Yoh Shomei is also known as a poet and published poetry books including “Kotoba no Hanataba (Bouquet of Words)” (2003) .
 This exhibition surveys Yoh Shomei’s whole career and shed light on the gradual change of his style.
